Under the chairmanship of the Secretary of State of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Krymbek Kusherbayev, the second meeting of the State Commission for the Full Rehabilitation of Victims of Political Repression was held.

During the meeting, issues of the current activities of the State Commission for the Full Rehabilitation of Victims of Political Repression and its regional branches were discussed.During the meeting, Chairman of the State Commission Krymbek Kusherbayev noted that the organizational stage of the State Commission has been completed and active research work by scientists and experts has begun in various archives of the country.

To ensure the activities of the State Commission, a Project Office was created, which included scientists, researchers, and representatives of government agencies. To comprehensively cover all areas of the State Commission’s activities, 11 working groups have been formed. Each group carries out its activities within the framework of thematic plans and a specific methodology in accordance with the categories of victims of repression. To organize the systematic work of the State Commission, regional commissions for the rehabilitation of victims of political repression have been created and are functioning in all regions of the country. They are headed by deputy regional akims and include scientists, prominent public figures, and representatives of government bodies and organizations.

The Minister of Education and Science, Askhat Aimagambetov, said that all members of the working groups received permission to work in closed and special archives. Scientists are exempt from their main jobs at universities and research institutes while maintaining their salaries and all social benefits.

The Minister of Culture and Sports, Aktoty Raimkulova, spoke about the upcoming work on the creation of a Special Archive Fund and the Institute of National Remembrance on issues of political repression. During the event, a decision was made to create a subcommittee for a comprehensive study of closed archival funds on political repression and their phased declassification.

Following the meeting, the Secretary of State gave a number of instructions aimed at improving the activities of departmental and state archives and creating favorable conditions for the work of scientists and researchers in archives. The tasks of intensifying the activities of regional commissions and financing their activities, as well as forming an information strategy for the activities of the State Commission, are outlined.
