On the Day of Remembrance for Victims of Political Repression and Famine, the Secretary of State of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chairman of the State Commission for the Full Rehabilitation of Victims of Political Repression, Krymbek Kusherbayev, together with members of the State Commission, laid flowers at the Memory Wall of the ALZHIR Museum and Memorial Complex. Participants in the memorial ceremony honored the memory of the victims of political repression and famine with a minute of silence, the Akorda website reports.
The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Yeraly Tugzhanov, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Dauren Abaev, First Deputy Chairman of the Nur Otan Party Bauyrzhan Baibek, and Akim of Akmola Region Ermek Marzhikpayev. During his visit to the museum-memorial complex, Krymbek Kusherbayev paid special attention to the scientific research and expeditionary work of the museum, noting that the rehabilitation of prisoners of the notorious ALZHIR camp is the task of one of the working groups of the State Commission engaged in the rehabilitation of innocently repressed people who were in camps on the territory of the republic, as well as members of their families.
As is known, the activities of the State Commission, created on the initiative of the Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, are carried out on the basis of comprehensive work to study history and conduct archival research. As part of organizing the activities of the State Commission, a Project Office, two subcommittees, 11 working groups, and 17 regional commissions have been created and are operating.
Scientists and experts from working groups and regional commissions received access to closed archival materials and began active research work. To ensure its effectiveness, a basic methodology has been approved, thematic plans for working groups have been formed, and meetings are held on the search and study of archival documents on site.
In conclusion, the Secretary of State once again recalled that the activities of the State Commission are, first of all, a huge historical mission and responsibility to previous and future generations to perpetuate the memory of innocent victims of political repression and famine and restore historical justice.
