Today is the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repressions. This is a sad page in the history of our people. On this day various actions and exhibitions are held, and new data about those events is published. This is a day to commemorate the innocent victims and victims of all peoples and social groups living on the territory of the Soviet Union from the mass repressions which lasted for more than 2 decades after the civil war of 1918-1920. The importance of such events increases every year. Modern generations are historically distant from those events and have not received enough knowledge about the tragic pages of our past. From 1920 to 1953, 100 thousand people were condemned in our country and more than 20 thousand were shot. In essence, a whole generation of the Kazakh intelligentsia which was defending its interests was destroyed. Millions of people passed through the camps. According to various estimates, the number of people who died in the 1930s was 1.5 to 2.5 million. The process of rehabilitation of victims of repression has been going on for decades. Last year, by order of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the government passed a special resolution, on the basis of which a state commission was established. The goal is to fully rehabilitate the victims of political repression. Raushan Aidarbayeva, a candidate in historical sciences, is one of the scientists engaged in research in the East of Kazakhstan. The tragic pages of history have become an integral part of our national identity. Therefore, the memory of political repression and famine victims will live on for centuries.
